The internet has dragged a man for refusing to let his girlfriend take "dangerously hot showers" while in his apartment.

In a popular post published to Reddit's infamous "AmITheA**hole" forum, a man under the username u/fritofiend wanted to know if he was in the wrong and left the discussion up to the "AITA" community. The post has 2,000 upvotes and 1,000 comments.

The Reddit user explained that he has been dating his girlfriend for a few months and since she began a project for her job in the city, they thought it would be a good idea for her to live with him during the week instead of commuting. Since she began staying there, he realized that she takes very hot showers.

He wrote, "She has the water so hot that steam billows from the bathroom when she opens the door. It leaves everything in the bathroom wet."

What really happens to your skin when you shower in hot water?

"Hot water strips the skin of its natural oils leading to dry, itchy skin and eventually eczema," dermatologist Sejal Shah, M.D. told Women's Health, "Similarly, hot water can strip the hair of its natural oils, causing it to be drier, and if you color your hair, it can cause the color to fade faster."

"I have been telling her to use the dehumidifier in the bathroom as she showers. She told me that she showers with the window open and turns it on afterwards because the air was too humid for the dehumidifier. I put my foot down and told her it wasn't optional, and she ended up breaking the dehumidifier with the steam," he continued.

Since there was no dehumidifier, she would have to "shower at a normal temperature like everyone else does." Whenever she leaves the bathroom, he notices that her skin is red. She ended up locking the door and turning his bathroom into a "f**king sauna."

After he grew tired of it, he decided to take the lock off the door of the bathroom. He reassured the readers that she still had privacy when she used the bathroom since the toilet was in another room. He always checks to make sure that the temperature of the water is normal.

Since he took off the lock, he noticed that her mood changed while she was around him.

"She's started spending weekends at her place and she's slowly been taking her stuff with her. I told her that I didn't do it to be nasty, but the hot showers were damaging my bathroom and probably her health too. She just says 'ok' and 'it's fine,'" he concluded.

Many other Reddit users slammed the original poster (OP) in the comment section.

"[You're the A**hole]. Bathrooms with showers should be able to handle steam. If it can't, that's a facility problem, not your gfs (for now) problem. Seriously tho, get a window fan and let the woman boil herself alive," u/Sarioth received the top comment with 10,000 upvotes.

"[You're the A**hole]. It's a bathroom. You're allowed to take hot, steamy showers in a bathroom. It's normal. Trying to control your girlfriend's shower temperature isn't," u/Scrabblement exclaimed.

"This has GOT TO BE A JOKE. Yta. Hot showers unclog your nose when you have allergies. We know how hot it can be without it hurting. Hot showers HELP with body aches," u/Some_Anteater_5077 said.
